Try our new lovely little tree walk!
Friday, 24 February 2023
The walk features the following tree species:
*Grand Fir,
*Norway Maple,
*Larch,
*Downy Birch.
There is also a restored parish council seat and spring flowers have been planted there. It will be a particularly lovely walk just now and for the next few weeks. Take a seat and enjoy the beauty! And I for one, (and I know there are many many others), give great thanks that we have Alan Winlow beavering away, week after week, month after month, planting, thinking, improving, sorting, round and about Coquetdale. He must have planted, literally, thousands of trees by now. He plants on farmland, and on road sides. He is always on the lookout for new places.
The newly planted trees on the Grand Fir Walk are all growing well and will provide an ever-changing feature of interest as they develop in years to come. Of course, the guards will be removed when it is the appropriate time. Thanks to these Tree Wardens: Alan Winlow, Jane Cheadle, Luisa Trinder, Jo Coulter. They designed and created the walk, and they hope it will be well used by members of our local community and visitors.

Update
It was so inspiring to receive an email from Alan this week, (June 2025) with an update on how The Grand Fir Walk is progressing.
Alan wrote: "The Grand Fir Walk is looking splendid at the moment, with all the trees decked in soft, light-green spring needles that give off a beautiful lemon aroma when crushed.
With its extensive views over the valley to Rothbury, it is well worth a visit!
I planted the trees during lockdown in 2020. How fast these Grand Firs grow, and what a transformation of the area! As you can see in the 2020 images, bracken thrived in the patch alongside the road.
With repeated strimming and the walker's footfall, grass and flowers, such as foxgloves, are taking over.
